Entain embraces sustainable energy with carbon-neutral pledge

Entain, the holding company behind Ladbrokes and Coral, has announced a new commitment to sustainable energy, pledging to become completely carbon neutral by no later than 2025.

The operator will reduce and offset emissions within its own operations, in addition to cooperating with suppliers to decarbonise its supply chain. The group currently maintains a 24,000-strong workforce spread across 4,5000 retail outlets and 20 offices in five different continents.

A formal letter of commitment has been sent to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) by the firm, which is beginning to develop its decarbonisation strategy.

“This is an ambitious and critically important commitment that we are making today, and one that I am proud to make on behalf of our people around the world,” commented Jette Nygaard-Andersen, newly appointed CEO of Entain.

“We have a strong culture of behaving ethically and responsibly in everything that we do, and we know that as a large global business we have a duty to do everything that we can to help tackle the climate crisis.”

The commitment builds on Entain’s ongoing sustainability initiative, which has seen the company reduce its carbon emissions by 15% between 2018 and 2021. Furthermore, the group has achieved its Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon in the UK, achieved through governance, carbon accounting and carbon management.

Additional efforts have seen the group retain its position as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Europe and FTSE4Good Index Series.

Entain is not the only UK betting operator to embrace a green energy policy. William Hill announced a commitment in January to converting its energy supply to 100% sustainable resources.
