Did Elon Musk create Bitcoin? Australians think so, according to new survey by Finder

Following a recent survey conducted by Australia’s Finder, it appears that Australians’ knowledge of cryptocurrency needs to be lifted. Surprisingly, over half of the respondents think that Elon Musk created Bitcoin.

Australia’s most visited comparison website questioned 1,004 Australians on their crypto knowledge. Finder’s survey is timed with the firm launching a Bitcoin trading service through its app.

A staggering 56% of Australians are not aware of the Satoshi Nakamoto, the person that created Bitcoin. Instead they think that Tesla and SpaceX founder Musk is the founder of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

The majority of respondents do not know that the Bitcoin supply is limited to 21 million coins, with even 44% of them thinking that Bitcoin is similar to fiat currency and basically has limitless ‘printing’ capacity.

Interestingly, despite the lack of understanding’ many Australians are already in crypto or looking to do so. 25% of the people either own or plan to own crypto by the end of 2021. As many as 20% of Australians do not have any idea on how to buy crypto.

Offering the crypto trading service to its users, Finder co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Fred Schebesta said would help Australians move into crypto:

“We‘ve removed all the complexity and with the Finder app you can buy a bitcoin in three minutes. You sign up, enter your details, deposit your money, that’s it.”

Schebesta did not hesitate to predict that the Bitcoin price will hit $250,000 by 2021:

“The current dip is just a short term thing. The price of Bitcoin has moved because China said something, or Elon said something, or another government said something.”

Crypto markets are going thru rough times, after plunging massively in the past days.
