Could Apple be moving in on crypto soon?

A new job listing surely indicates that Apple is about to explore cryptocurrencies for its payment services. Finally it is moving there where its customers are, you could say.

As per the recent job listing, Apple is looking for an experienced business development manager with:

“over 5 years experience working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, cryptocurrency.”

The right candidate would be leading the company’s Wallets, Payments, and Commerce team:

“This position will be responsible for the end-to-end business development, including screening partners, negotiating and closing commercial agreements, and launching new programs.”

It is the tech giant’s first opening where it is looking for someone with experience in crypto. The move opens the suggestion that Apple is interested in bringing crypto products in-house. Until now, the company relies on third parties to assist with crypto payments using Apple Pay.

Apple seems to be gradually exploring the crypto space by taking baby steps. Its popular payments is already supported by Gemini exchange since February of this year. Gemini customers can buy crypto through the Apple Pay integration. Crypto payments company, BitPay, has also rolled out such integration on their platform this year.

Although Apple have previously said to acknowledge the “long-term potential” in cryptocurrency technology, so far, the focus has not been on it. Perhaps 2021 is the right time to make a change.
