Betway nets Mercedes Cup sponsorship as tennis return continues

Betway continues its return to sponsoring pro-tennis events, announcing that it will serve as the official betting partner of the Mercedes Cup – an ATP250 tournament.

Held at prestige Club Weissenhof (8-13 June) in Stuttgart Germany, the Mercedes Cup is regarded as one of the ATP Tour’s key grass-court tournaments in the lead-up to Wimbledon’s Grand Slam event. Past winners include Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer.

At the start of its 2021 season, the ATP Tour announced that it had ‘partially lifted’ its ban on sports betting partnerships, allowing for its registered ATP 250/500 tournaments to be sponsored by licensed bookmakers.

Betway, the former sponsor of the Davis Cup,  has revitalised its tennis sponsorship portfolio, securing new partnerships with the ATP tour events of Mutua Madrid, Miami Open and the Estoril Portugal Open.

The sponsorship ban was lifted following a revision of the ATP Tour’s commercial arrangements undertaken by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU).

Despite its reprieve, bookmaker sponsorships have not been allowed for ATP Masters series and the Grand Slam tennis events of The Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Anthony Werkman, Betway’s CEO said: “We are overjoyed to become the Official Betting Partner of the Mercedes Cup tournament. We continue to showcase our support of Tennis around the world and we look forward to being part of such a historic event.”
