Bitcoin and Ethereum Addresses on Your Twitter Profile Soon?

Although not official yet, it appears that Twitter is developing a functionality that allows users to include Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) addresses to their profiles. And this option is coming soon.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey already hinted in June that the platform was considering to integrate Bitcoin to the platform.

The latest ‘rumor’ comes after Twitter’s product lead Kayvon Beykour retweeted a September 1 post by Italian mobile developer and known “leaker” Alessandro Paluzzi and included the words “soon”.

A day later on September 2, Paluzzi tweeted a couple of screenshots that showed BTC and ETH wallet address options in the settings toolbar of Twitter’s app. This update is believed to be a part of the in May introduced, Tip Jar feature, enabling BTC and ETH tipping on the platform.

While there had been report from MacRumours noting that Twitter’s BTC tipping feature will be making use of the Lightning Network platform Strike, Paluzzi says  “it is not necessary to link a Strike account” to add BTC addresses to profiles.

Jack Dorsey has often publicly praised cryptocurrency, saying that it reminds him of the “early days of the internet” and that there isn’t “anything more important” in his lifetime for him to work on. About Bitcoin specifically he had said:

“Bitcoin is something precious and unique. It therefore has to be protected at whatever cost.”
