Dutch Gambling Authority Grants 10 Online Gaming Licenses
The Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has confirmed 10 online gaming licenses were granted.
The licenses will allow the owners to offer what the regulator describes as “games of chance” via the internet in the Netherlands starting 1 October 2021.
The company’s that have secured a license are:
- TOTO Online BV
- FPO Nederland BV
- Holland Casino NV
- NSUS Malta Limited
- Play North Ltd
- Tombola Limited
- Hillside (New Media Malta) Plc
- Bingoal Nederland BV
- Betent BV
- LiveScore Malta Limited
Regulated online gambling in the Netherlands is now step closer to becoming a reality.
Online operators with a Dutch Gaming License will be under strict control of the KSA and are mandated to check if their players happen to be registered in a Dutch national database that tracks a player’s self-exclusion, the CRUKS (Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen). If players appear on this ‘blacklist’ they should not be gambling.
Operators are also required to determine player’s identity and need to keep supporting documents on file for at least five years. Most operators are already complying with this requirement due to international anti-money laundering regulations.
Earlier this year, the KSA revealed that 28 applications were submitted. According to the KSA, thus far only one in three applications have been approved because of these tight demands on responsible gambling. Chairman of the KSA, René Jansen, said:
“High requirements are imposed on a license, including in the field of addiction prevention and consumer protection, and the KSA tests rigorously.”
Jansen also said that the ten operators that have received license will be joined by a lot more in the short term. The KSA is anticipating that July 2022 will offer a more complete picture of the new regulated online gaming landscape in the Netherlands.
