2021 WSOP is Under Way with Live Poker until End of November

2021 WSOP is Under Way with Live Poker until End of November

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is finally back and live, in-person poker is well under way after a two year gap due to Covid-19. Play for the 52nd edition of the Las Vegas based event began just before the weekend on Thursday September 30 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

While under normal circumstances, WSOP would take place in the sports off season, June and July, this year it is running from September 30 to November 23 and it therefore coincides with the American Football season. Due to this, Las Vegas is now only home to poker players, but a lot of sportsbetting enthusiasts in the US have found their way.

The tournament organisation is expecting thousands of players from all across the world to make their appearance at the Rio and enroll in any of the 88 championship events, eyeing one of those notorious WSOP bracelets. The 2021 WSOP schedule can be found here. The 2019 edition had over 187,000 entrants from 118 countries and saw $293 million in prizes awarded.

Ty Stewart, senior vice president of the WSOP, said:

“We’ve spent the last 26 months dreaming of the return of the WSOP live and in-person to the Rio, and it feels incredible to say, today is that day.”

He continued:

“Make no mistake, the 2021 WSOP will be the real deal and we’re preparing for a full house. Throughout the storied history of the WSOP, this year will be particularly memorable and we’re preparing for a poker reunion all players can celebrate.”

This year’s Main Event, the $10,000 no limit Texas Hold’em World Championship will start its Day 1a on November 4 and have the last players battle it out on November 23.

Notably different this year, compared to previous edition, is the vaccine mandate that the WSOP put in place. Any participant, staff, vendors and media will require proof of complete vaccination to be allowed in.
