International Cricket Council Comes With NFTs on Flow Blockchain

Tiger Global announced on Wednesday that it led a $17.4 million seed round for Faze Technologies. At the same time Faze announced its partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to launch a cricket non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace on the Flow blockchain. Earlier this year NBA Top Shot went mainstream on the blockchain.

The timing is brilliant with the, with The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup well under way in the United Arab Emirates with India playing Afghanistan today.

Anshum Bhambri, Chief Executive Officer of Faze said in a press release that he is hoping “to build the metaverse for cricket.”

Investors in the $17.4 million seed round include Flow developer Dapper Labs, large Dapper backer Coatue, Sequoia Capital India, SamsungNext, Courtside Ventures and Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive.

Faze said that its cricket marketplace will mimic Top Shot’s use of present-day and historical moments. It also plans to build a “play-to-earn universe” involving the “battling of NFTs,” , the company said in a press release.

Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou commented on its investment and said in a press release:

“We’re excited to be partnering with Faze to launch the ultimate cricket fan experience with the ICC on Flow. With over one billion cricket fans across ICC’s 105 member nations, Faze is revolutionizing how cricket fans everywhere connect and engage with some of the greatest moments in cricket history.”

It’s not the first cricket NFT platform to hit the market. In August Rario launched on the Polygon blockchain and in an earlier project involving Round Labs, cricket NFTs launched on the Ethereum blockchain.
