Stephen Curry and Under Armour Celebrate the All-Star’s New 3-Point Record with NFTs

Sports apparel brand Under Armour has stepped into the metaverse with their first wearable, cross-platform sneaker NFT after partnering with Golden State Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry.

In celebration of his record-breaking appearance setting a new all-time high total of three-pointers, Under Armour have dropped 2,974 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) this night. The collection features digital replicas of the Under Armour-made “Curry Flow 9″ sneakers that the Golden State guard was wearing when he broke NBA legend Ray Allen’s record on December 14 against the New York Knicks. Each NFT was priced at $333, with the proceeds going to children’s sports charities.

Being the first wearable, cross-platform sneaker NFT, the virtual shoes can be worn across three metaverses, Gala Games, The Sandbox and Decentraland.

Gala Games Chief Strategy Officer James Olden commented on the Genesis Curry Flow with its players being able to use the Genesis Curry Flow NFTs to get in-game rewards. He said:

“We could not have picked a more historic moment for Gala Games to enter sports collectibles for the first time. We are thrilled to be the only platform for this drop that offers play-to-earn utility in-game that truly rewards players.”

With this move, Under Armour follows its two main global rivals competitors, Nike and Adidas, who recently dabbled into the world of NFTs and metaverses.

This is not the first time for Stephen Curry to get into NFTs. On December 17, Curry announced his 2974 collection, released exclusively with crypto exchange FTX, with each NFT highlighting a specific three-pointer that led up to his record. The collection was sold out in the first 5 minutes.
