Dogecoin Foundation Presents First-Ever Roadmap

The Dogecoin Foundation has launched its first-ever roadmap detailing a number of new projects. Is the memecoin finally living up to its ‘potential’ as ‘Dogefather’ Elon Musk has repeatedly suggested this year?

The non-profit organization that aims to support the development of the memecoin through advocacy announced a Dogecoin “trailmap” on Twitter.

The Dogecoin Foundation, which has Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin among its advisory board, is exploring eight projects including the launch of LibDogecoin and GigaWallet. In the roadmap the foundation reveals it is working with Buterin:

“[We are] crafting a uniquely Doge proposal for a ‘community staking’ version of Proof of Stake (PoS) that will allow everyone, not just the big players to participate in a way that rewards them for their contribution to running the network.”

The foundation further states that a group of “some influential friends” is backing its new open-source projects.

Having started the year with just a price of “one cent”, Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s involvement in the DOGE community has helped sent the coin to the moon this year, leading to a high of $0.7376. One of Musk’s most notable endorsements for the memecoin being his much anticipated appearance on Saturday Night Live in May.

On December 14, Musk revealed that Tesla would be accepting DOGE for payments. Comparing the world’s top cryptocurrency with Dogecoin, Musk said:

“Bitcoin is not a good substitute for transactional currency. Even though it was created as a silly joke, Dogecoin is better suited for transactions. The total transaction flow that you do with Dogecoin, like transactions per day, is much higher potential than Bitcoin.”

What started as a joke in 2013, co-founded by Billy Markus, DOGE is now the 12th largest cryptocurrency by market value, according to CoinMarketCap. The co-creator already hinted in September that development and innovation are what is lacking the ‘dormant’ coin, according to its criticizers.

At the time of writing DOGE is moving hands at $0.1917.
