Block’s Cash App Out Rolls Out Lightning Bitcoin Payments
After months of rumors and anticipation, it is now official. Jack Dorsey’s mobile payments service Cash App has integrated Lightning Network payments to its platform and is available to most of U.S. customers.
The firm shared the news on Twitter late Monday night.
Lightning Network is now available on Cash App. It’s the fastest, free way to pay anyone in bitcoin.

Cash App immediately added that the service is not yet available for its New York State customers. The firm also note that it has rolled out a limited version.
Cash App described the Lightning Network as:
“The Lightning Network is a new way to send bitcoin that’s faster and free. While other ways to send bitcoin can take up to 10 min and charge fees, Lightning lets you send Bitcoin to any compatible wallet in the world in less time than it takes to tie your shoes — and free.”
The integration of Bitcoin’s second-layer protocol for lightning-fast transactions was made possible by the Lightning Development Kit, an open-source project developed by Spiral, another company owned by Block.
