FTX, eToro, Crypto.com and Coinbase all debuted crypto ads during Super Bowl 2022 on Sunday when the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals.

The one that drew the most attention was undoubtedly Coinbase Commercial of a color-changing QR code, silently moving across the screen. The QR code redirected viewers to Coinbase’s landing page, promoting a Bitcoin (BTC) giveaway upon sign-up.

Due to overwhelming interest, the Coinbase App became temporarily unavailable.

FTX, another cryptocurrency exchange with already a strong presence in sports, also aired its first Super Bowl advertisement, featuring comedian Larry David, repeatedly telling the viewers:

“Don’t be like Larry. Don’t miss out on the next big thing.”

eToro’s Super Bowl ad “Flying Your Way”, was displaying city life, wondering what to invest in, crypto or stocks? And if crypto is actually going “to the moon”?

Crypto.com continued its “Fortune Favors the Brave” campaign and featured La Lakers legendary forward Lebron James in a one-on-one with his younger self. The 2013 Lebron asks the real Lebron about what is to come and got the following answer:

“I can’t tell you everything, but if you want to make history, you gotta call your own shots.”

Just a day earlier, Lebron James became the NBA’s highest scoring player in all its history.

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange did not buy a slot on U.S. national TV, instead it opted a for a social media campaign countering all ‘celebrity endorsed crypto ads’ by telling consumers to “Do Your Own Research.”
