Los Angeles Rams’ 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI has been sensational for US online sports betting.

According to data from GeoComply, which provides geolocation data for the gaming industry, more than 80.1 million transactions were identified related to the Super Bowl over the weekend, more than double (2.26x) the number for the 2021 Super Bowl. And since Friday midnight, roughly 5.6 million unique accounts accessed legal online sportsbooks, a 95% increase from last year.

BetMGM had a record number of first-time users signing up on Sunday, and handled double the number of bets as during last year’s Super Bowl.

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said:

“We’re encouraged by strong results over the weekend, with Super Bowl LVI being the most bet on Super Bowl to date.”

Latest research by the American Gaming Association (AGA) anticipated a record total of 31.4 million American adults planning to bet on Super Bowl LVI this coming Sunday, a 35% increase from 2021. Exact numbers are not yet known.
