FTX Brings Good Luck Games to Its New Gaming Unit After Acquisition
Cryptocurrency exchange FTX has acquired the developer of the upcoming card battle game Storybook Brawl, Good Luck Games, for an undisclosed amount to become part of FTX Gaming, the exchange’ new gaming unit.
Washington-based Good Luck Games was founded in 2019 and is led by four veteran card game designers and former professional players related to popular card games Magic: The Gathering and The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
Currently available in early access on Steam, Storybook Brawl features fairytale and mythical characters and is designed to be simple to play. Just like with Magic: The Gathering, a wide variety of cards brings the option of various strategies.
Storybook Brawl is expected to launch on mobile by this summer.
FTX co-founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried shared the news on Twitter himself, noting to be “excited to explore what the intersection of [non-fungible tokens], crypto, blockchain and gaming looks like.”
4) Well, that–and also that it’s a team we really love and believe in, with a vision we believe in, who we’re excited to work with and empower.
We’ve found that game, and that team. I know, because I–and many of our employees–have been playing the game since it launched.

Last Month FTX announced a new gaming unit, FTX Gaming, aimed at stimulating gaming companies to start using cryptocurrencies and will offer a “crypto-as-a-service” platform for the launch of tokens and NFT support.
Amy Wu, Head of FTX Ventures and Gaming, said:
“Yes there are gamers who don’t believe in NFTs in games, but there were also naysayers about free-to-play and mobile gaming. What it will take are examples of exceptionally designed, innovative games to show gamers the future.”
