New Survey Reveals Most Gamers are Positive About Metaverse

New Survey Reveals Most Gamers are Positive About Metaverse

A new survey titled “Metaverse Awareness Survey” found that the metaverse will impact the gaming industry in a positive way, despite gamers still having their reservations about the virtual reality.

The survey published by software developer Globant polled 1,000 gamers on the metaverse and related topics like NFTs and concluded that the metaverse is not just a bubble and here to stay.

Over half of the respondents say that metaverse technology will impact the gaming ecosystem, with 41% of this group believing it will do so in a good way. Just 25%  of the group were not too sure about this.

(In-game)Advertising remains a negative in games for those surveyed with just 35% being alright with advertising in the metaverse. A group of 44% said they would accept advertising in these spaces when rewards are associated with it, such as apps, games or spaces.

Chief Technology Officer for Globant in North America, Nicolas Avila, stated:

“Through this survey, we see that although the development of the metaverse is still in its early stages, U.S. gamers already see the technology as capable of expanding the realm of possibility in gaming.”

Play-to-Earn

The survey also looked at the booming play-and-earn (P2E) sector with half of gamers saying they would rather “play” than “earn” within metaverse games. Still a large enough number of gamers can still see value in mixing the two together:

  • 49% are more interested in playing
  • Only 11% are more interested in earning
  • Nearly 40% would like some mix of both playing and earning within metaverse games

Crypto and NFTs Not Popular

There still remains some disconnect between the metaverse and Web3 technology, and this is where the opportunity for the sector lies. While even the most seasoned gamers may still not be comfortable with the use of cryptocurrencies or NFTs, this can be a valuable bridge to cross.  The survey shows that for now only 34% of the gamers are interested in cryptocurrency, with half of them not wanting to mix crypto with their gaming activities. almost half of them had no interest at all in mixing crypto assets with gaming.

With 81% of the surveyed responding not to have purchased NFTs yet, big traditional gaming companies are already moving in on the metaverse and introducing NFTs to their players.

An interesting finding from the survey is that Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is best known by gamers when it comes to the metaverse with 73% making the association. Epic Games, known from Fortnite, comes in second with just 27% recalling the brand.
