NFT Sports Prediction Game Play Hellebore Launches

Golden State Warriors basketball team co-owner, and founder of online retailer Zappos, Nick Swinmurn, on Tuesday announced the world’s first NFT-powered play-and-earn sports prediction game, Play Hellebore. The fantasy sports-style platform allows users predict the outcome of professional sports matches for blockchain-based prizes. NFTs can already be minted and the first ‘bets’ can be placed.

“By purchasing low-cost NFT (non fungible token) players called Sibers for .03 ETH (approximately $50 USD), individuals across the globe can predict the outcomes of real-life games in the NFL, NCAA football, MLB, and international soccer,” the press release said.

As the Siber rating increases, coinciding with the start of the 2022 NFL season, starting September 8, players can unlock the league level.

Players can also choose from NCAA football, MLB and international football games and competitions. Similar to traditional fantasy sports leagues based on players and stats, players can become league managers. You can build custom leagues with up to 64 teams and go head-to-head with your friends and family.

Unlike many other NFTs, Hellebore’s NFTs immediately provide players with real-world and in-game utility. Players can use their credits to unlock digital and physical rewards, including additional NFT prizes, merchandise, and unique fan experiences. Additionally, the rating of each silver medal increases with each correct choice, allowing them to play the odds in the player’s favor by allowing them to alter the game’s point distribution.

NFT Fantasy Sports games are on the rise, currently dominated by Ethereum-based Football Fantasy Platform Sorare, that recently ventured into the MLB, after partnering with the league.

Hellebore founder and CEO, Nick Swinmurn, said:

“Everybody knows what fantasy sports are, and chances are that at some point most individuals have also taken part in some kind of ‘Pick’Em’ league with friends, in their neighborhood, or at their office.”

Swinmurn added:

“With the Web3 and NFT spaces continuing to proliferate at a rapid pace, it is only natural that these worlds would collide to provide both hardcore and casual sports fans alike with a fun new way to be a part of the game and compete for rewards and bragging rights.”

Roshni Cox, Hellebore COO, commented:

“The sports industry is unmatched in its ability to bring together millions of people around the world in pursuit of a shared interest. By leveraging the capability of Web3 and NFTs, we are providing individuals a new way to engage with the sports they love.”
