GAMSTOP Launches UK’s First “Self-Exclusion Awareness Campaign Ahead of World Cup

The UK’s free online national self-exclusion service GAMSTOP has launched its first campaign in partnership with professional football clubs and sporting bodies including Crystal Palace, the Professional Players’ Federation and the Professional Cricket Association.

The social media campaign was organised to highlight the value of self-exclusion for those struggling with gambling and to harness the power and reach of football club channels. Using the hashtag #TakeBackControl2022, GAMSTOP and its partners and supporters reached 2.6 million viewers through their social media campaign on Thursday, September 15th.

This list of supporting teams and sports associations includes:

  • Crystal Palace
  • QPR
  • PPF
  • PCA
  • PDPA
  • Preston North End
  • Southend
  • Luton Town
  • AFC Mansfield
  • Sutton United
  • Walsall FC
  • Oldham Athletic
  • Dagenham & Redbridge
  • Swindon Town FC

Since its inception, over 315,000 people have used GAMSTOP to exclude them from all licensed UK sports betting sites. Big sporting events usually see a spike in registrations and, ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter, GAMSTOP will raise awareness of its exclusion service amongst football fans who might need to protect themselves from possible gambling-related harm.
