BOS releases a report that the institute Novus had carried out on behalf of BOS. Novus has asked questions to the Swedish people about what they think about the gambling industry on a number of key issues. The results show extreme differences between what the Swedish people believe and what reality looks like. Some examples:

The Swedes believe that 23 percent of the population suffers from a gambling addiction

In fact, it is 0.5-1.3 percent

The Swedes believe that the gambling companies’ return to player is 21 percent

In fact, it is around 95 percent

The Swedes believe that gambling advertising has increased over the past three years

In fact, it has more than halved

“This report shows a huge knowledge gap and it’s clear that we need to work harder to spread the true picture of the gambling industry. It is no wonder that many demand even tighter regulation of the gambling industry when the general opinion is that almost every fourth Swede suffers from a gambling addiction, when the real figure is one in one hundred” says Gustaf Hoffstedt, secretary general of BOS, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling.
