Hibernian beat Hamilton to win the Sportego Community Cup

After a successful week of competitive matches, the Sportego Community Cup on EA Sports’ FIFA 17 has come to an end, with Hibernian beating Hamilton Academicals in an all Scottish final.

The week-long cup competition, which started on December 12, matched eight top gamers to professional football clubs from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland, with Graham McIntyre (Hibernian) beating Jack Beasley (Hamilton Academicals) in the final on December 18.

Geoff Wilson from the Celtic eSports League said, “The tournament has been a great success. We have seen extremely competitive matches and the viewing figures are really encouraging. We are trialing a new concept in eSports, and we have learnt a lot which we will take into our league in January 2017.”

“I would like to thank Hibernian, Hamilton Academicals, Linfield, Crusaders, Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, TNS and Wolverhampton Wanderers as well as our gamers who have taken part during the week.  Finally, I would like to thank our sponsor, Sportego, who has helped us make this venture a reality.”

The inaugural Sportego Celtic eSports League (CESL) will get underway in January 2017. The top eight players will play online for the CESL title on a home and away basis.
