ITF drops Betway as Davis & Fed Cup sponsor

Tennis’ governing body, The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed that it has terminated its three-year deal with online betting firm Betway.

Speaking to CNN last week, ITF President Dave Haggerty detailed that as part of its new policy, the governing body had decided that it would no longer partner with any betting companies.

The termination of its Betway partnership will see the bookmaker dropped as ‘international sponsor’ of the Davis and Fed Cup tournaments, the ITF’s flagship tennis tournaments.

Haggerty detailed to CNN that ITF governance was committed to ending match-fixing at all-levels of professional tennis. Implementing new policy and standards the ITF and its syndicated tournaments will not be seeking sponsorship from betting firms.

The sport of Tennis drops a further betting partnership, In December 2016 the executive committee of the Australian Open announced that it would restrict William Hill branding during the Grand Slam tournament, with no ‘courtside’ promotion of the bookmaker visible during matches.

The ITF’s decision sees Betway lose one of its most high-profile sponsorships. Announced in November 2015, Betway marketing detailed that it had secured terms for a ‘high coverage’ multi-format sponsorship of Davis and Fed Cup tournaments, a the company looked to expand its brand in new sports beyond football.
