The Deputy Leader and Policy Chief of the main opposition, Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, Akira Nagatsuma voiced his opposition over the development of Casinos in Japan during a speech delivered by him against the casino legislation. He who is a well-respected politician among Congressmen is highly renowned for his leading contributions on welfare policy among Japanese lawmakers.

His oppositions over promotion of casinos were revealed this week during a debate within the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives. According to the local press, Nagatsuma argued that “Japan was already the most gambling-addicted country among all advanced nations” and he asked the lawmakers to explain how casino development would turn out to be a benefit for the residents.

Post the debate the supporters of gaming legislation were expected to answer Nagatsuma’s concerns and put forward the plans to approve further bills in order to execute the casino law. Despite the authorisation of the casino industry in Japan, the market has not seen much development yet, as both the operators and regulators are waiting for the ultimate approval of IR Promotion Act which has been under controversy.

Without the final approval of the bill that regulates the licensing process for upcoming casinos in Japan and further operation of the highly-expected gaming industry, companies are not able to introduce their proposals and get the permissions to start the constructions. The Japanese Congress has been delaying the debates related to the issue, which has frozen every determination to develop the market.
