Ceuta launches ‘BetonCeuta’ conference targeting industry transfers
The executive of Ceuta, Spain’s autonomous city based in the north coast of Africa boarding Morocco has confirmed that it will launch its first online gambling function ‘BetonCeuta’, introducing business leaders to the jurisdiction, which seeks to become a new regulatory player for European online gambling incumbents.
A two-day conference scheduled from 15-16 October 2019, BetonCeuta will showcase the Ceuta executive’s regulatory strategy and business frameworks relating to establishing business domains, taxation, training, grants and further operational advantages for industry incumbents.
Ceuta representatives speaking at the conference include Juan Vivas President of Ceuta, Maria Jose Garde General Director of Taxes, with the event further supported by the representation of Spain’s DGOJ Director-General Juan Espinosa Garcia.
Along with the governance of twin autonomous community Melilla, the executive of Ceuta has formerly stated that it will look to exploit Gibraltar business impacts, as the British overseas territory handles an uncertain future dealing with the consequences of Brexit.
A No Deal Brexit may see Gibraltar Remote Gambling Licenses become significantly limited in scope post-Brexit, as the EU member states could deem Gibraltar regulatory provisions as ineligible with European Union business laws.
In 2017 the European Court of Justice (ECJ) clarified that Gibraltar would hold no ‘special status’ as the overseas territory’ would be treated as an entity of the United Kingdom which has chosen to limit its access to the European Common Market.
Since launching industry directives, Ceuta has seen online gambling operator Mondobets become the first industry incumbent to establish its operational hub within the territory, followed by UK bookmaker Betfred opening its ‘Spanish market operations’ within the autonomous city.
