Yuga Labs Acquires CryptoPunks and Meebits Collections from Larva Labs
The firm behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, Yuga Labs, has acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits from the developer Larva Labs.
On Friday evening, a join statement was made by Yuga Labs and Larva Labs on Twitter.
Some big news to share today: Yuga has acquired the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from @LarvaLabs, and the first thing we’re doing is giving full commercial rights to the NFT holders. Just like we did for BAYC and MAYC owners. pic.twitter.com/lAIKKvoEDj

Yuga Labs’ blog post reads:
“We now own the brands, copyright in the art, and other IP rights for both collections, along with 423 CryptoPunks and 1711 Meebits.”
The announcement also says:
“While we will work to bring additional utility to both the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections, we intend to do so as thoughtful stewards. We’re not in a rush here. We’ll be listening to the community before we decide what comes next. ”
Larva Labs stresses it will keep the the rights to its other big NFT collections:
“This is, however, not an acquisition of Larva Labs. That’s still us, and we still own the Autoglyphs project as well as a group of our favorite Punks and Meebs. As for what’s next for us, we never talk about that until it’s ready, but in general we’re excited to get back to what we do best, which is working on weird new stuff.”
Bored Ape Yacht Club is currently the most valuable NFT collection around while the CryptoPunks are the second most valuable.
